Rublev Yellow Ochre Light is a single pigment natural earth colour sourced from the last remaining European ochre producer working the historic Gargas and Rustrel quarries in the Luberon Massif, France. This light yellow ochre is based on goethite (iron oxide hydroxide, α-FeOOH) with natural variations of clay, chalk, and quartz. Unlike red ochres, yellow ochres contain water in their structure, which gives them their distinctive soft warmth and natural transparency.

In painting, Yellow Ochre Light is semi-transparent with low tinting strength and fair covering power, making it ideal for subtle glazing, atmospheric underpainting, portrait work, and sunlit landscape passages. It is especially useful when you want to warm mixtures gently without overpowering other colours. Mixed with titanium white it produces creamy straw and soft sandstone tints that feel natural rather than chalky. As a true earth pigment, it is absolutely permanent and dependable for long-term work.
